Have you ever wondered how much time and work it takes to provide the students of Blue Ridge with a healthy lunch?
As Mackenzie and I (and friends) took a tour around the kitchen of the cafeteria with Mr. Matthew Nebzydoski (Nebz.) and the food service director, Linda Cole-Koloski, we were shown exactly how our lunches are made.

The lunch ladies work everyday as hard as they can keeping the kitchen clean while making food all at the same time. Each meal is calculated exactly to meet the requirements of the government’s nutritional standards. We were also shown the massive bowls used to make our soups and mix up macaroni and cheese, etc. These ladies cook for the entire school, serving around 1400 lunches and breakfasts on a daily basis.
Our tour of the kitchen allowed us to witness how all the ladies have their own specific job and how they complete those jobs–flawlessly–in order to make not only lunch, but, breakfast, too. This was a great opportunity for us to show the students of Blue Ridge how hard these ladies work for us.
Hey guys, we are back! Before break we went on our latest adventure with Mr. Nebz., a trip to the water treatment room next to the guidance office. It’s easy to miss in plain sight, but once you are inside it is like a whole new world. We explored the treatment cycle and even got to discover the old phone lines. Also we got the inside scoop on the whole main breakage in the water pipe that had shut our school down for a day–and we got to do all this in our pajamas!
As many know, the Blue Ridge auditorium is one of the largest rooms in the school with many levels filled with seats to watch anything ranging from plays, speakers, talent shows, etc. With that said, there are also hidden places in the auditorium, as well.
This past Wednesday, Makenzie Cook and I had a chance to check out the catwalk, thanks to Mr. Matthew Nebzydoski, our school’s curriculum director. The catwalk extends across the entire width of the auditorium, allowing for a great view of what’s happening below. Normally this is off-limits to students, but Mr. Nebzydoski gave us a tour right up to the access area and then he went on the catwalk and grabbed some footage of the view.
Welcome to “Behind the Scenes,” our student blog, where we, two Blue Ridge seniors, Makenzie Cook and Kyle Maginley, show you the hidden places in our school! These are places we do not normally get to explore, because they are off-limits to students. Fortunately for us, Mr. Matthew Nebzydoski, the great adventurer (better known as our school’s curriculum director), has agreed to accompany us “behind the scenes!” Each week we hope to show you something different, possibly a place you didn’t know existed, or a place we find interesting.
